Being Stuck In "The Blue Zone" Might Make You Happier Than You Think
October 20, 2017 | Brandon Mills
We have to thank National Geographic, not only for appreciating our recent tweet, but for publishing a valuable and eye opening article on the "Happiest Cities in the US." Hopefully you have the opportunity to find out where your city stands and reflect on some of the criteria that make up the happiest citizens in each place. Maybe you'll be surprised that topping the list isn't the best shopping spots or restaurants, but rather health driven criteria that lower stress... like having the most bike paths. This extensive study highlights nature, a strong sense of community, sustainable urban development and preservation policies. And shows that some of the keys to sustainable joy come from feeling active and productive everyday! These so-called Blue Zones may hold the key to longevity... want to find out why?
Have you ever known someone that appears to have it all, but in reality all they do is complain and feel miserable? As more and more of us are beginning to understand that true wealth is sourced from our purpose, leading to a stronger sense of connectedness, we are looking to avoid their fate.
One of our goals at Remedy Hike is to cut through the seemingly endless layers of un-fulfillment that come from trying to satisfy ourselves through external reality (Freud's fancy words for all those material things). We are looking to get to the essence of what makes us truly happy... and that comes from connecting with you. Yes you! As we head out on our hikes and look to stay focused on our mission, we have found that the energy that you give us a really puts a bounce in our step. Our community gives each of us a feeling of sustained happiness through those deep conversations that happen organically along the trails.
One brilliant aspect of Remedy Hike, (even if we do say so ourselves) is that you can find that sense of community, no matter what you do for a living and no matter what you've been through. Its all about acceptance and building that true sense of belonging. One that emerges each and every week as we set this intention and head outdoors!
To me it wasn't surprising that several cities in California made the top 25 list. If you find yourself lucky enough to be a Cali resident... and are picking up what we're throwing down... then come out this weekend. Let's get together, build a greater connection to this wonderful place, and clean up some trash! You will help feed into a greater sense of community all while you feed your soul at the very same time!
We will always be disappointed that a group of squid isn't called a squad.
Remedy Hike is on a mission to change the way we think about our health. We hike for change. Because we see Health Outside the Ordinary.
